Walther Q5 Match SF steel frame pistol
SHOT Show 2019 – New from Walther comes the Q5 Match SF pistol: all the competition-driven performance of the well-known PPQ Q5 Match is now available in a steel frame version
For years, following the introduction of the P99 pistol in 1996, the Carl Walther company of Ulm, Germany, has been focusing on the manufacture of a full family of handguns based on that very same model, and all sporting a polymer frame – albeit in several different versions.
Now, in 2019, the German company seems to have opted for a change of pace with the introduction of the Walther Q5 Match SF pistol, with SF standing for Steel Frame.
Essentially a full steel variant of the already well known, competition-oriented Q5 Match version of the PPQ line, the new Walther Q5 Match SF shares several features with the PPQ, including the "Quick Defense" trigger – this time in blue – as well as two drop safeties, a firing pin block for safe carry, and the ubiquitous 9mm Luger chambering.
The new Q5 Match Steel Frame pistol from Walther is built with the competitive shooter in mind, and staying perfectly in line with the market trend it features an optics ready slide that comes with a Trijicon RMR, Leupold Delta Point, and Docter Optics ready mounting plate in addition to the standard competition iron sights.
The groundbreaking (for this series) steel frame is precision-machined to add weight, but retains the signature ergonomics of a typical Walther frame as well as a tactical accessories rail, while the slide is ported to help manage recoil and muzzle climb and improve barrel cooling. The Q5 SF is advertised as "the flattest shooting model to date" in Walther's catalogue.
Featuring a 5" (12.7 cm) barrel with a 1:10" rifling twist, the new Walther Q5 Match SF is 8.7" (22 cm) long overall and feeds through standard 15-rounds Walther PPQ magazines or 17-rounds double-stack magazines, which are basically standard PPQ magazines wearing +2rds extended floorpads.
In addition to the already-mentioned optics-ready capabilities, the Walther Q5 Match SF pistol also comes with a fiber-optic front sight and fully adjustable Target rear sights. The all steel construction brings the overall weight of the Walther Q5 Match SF pistol to 41.6 oz (1,18 kg).
A version called the Walther Q5 Match SF Pro also exists, coming complete with an extended aluminum magazine well and being issued with three extended 17-rounds magazines.
