Wuben X4 Compact, the new top-selling pocket flashlight
The Wuben X4 Compact pocket flashlight sold over 90,000 samples worldwide in the first five days after its launch. Why so much success?
Headquartered in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, Wuben Lights is one of the world’s biggest manufacturers of tactical and utility illumination devices. The factory was first established in 1981, and worked for over thirty years as a licensed third-party manufacturer, making many flashlights that would be sold worldwide under the names of well-known European and north American brands.
Thirty years of experience allowed the company to go completely solo in terms of manufacturing and engineering in 2015; today, Wuben’s 20,000 m² factory can produce over a quarter million flashlights every month. The company has a net income of 100 million US dollars per year, and operates subsidiaries in Australia, Germany, Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Aside from partnering with some of the world’s biggest names in electronics and photonics – including LG, Samsung, Panasonic, Cree Lighting, Luminus Devices, and OSRAM – Wuben Lights spent the past several years designing and manufacturing some of the most interesting and innovative products in the field of utility, tactical, signaling and search lights.
Among those is the X4 Compact, one of Wuben Lights’ newest products for late 2025: first introduced officially on September 12th, in five days it had already been sold 88,328 units worldwide. But why is it so successful?
The Wuben X4 Compact is characterized by a squared design – a form factor much more apt for utility, work and EDC flashlights than for tactical flashlights, as a rectangular shape will fit better in a pocket. And indeed, being barely 37,3×26,3×95,7 millimeters (1.47×1.04×3.77 in) in size, and weighing in at just 141 grams (4.97 oz) with battery, the Wuben X4 Compact is small and lightweight enough for everyday, deep pocket carry.
The light’s body is manufactured out of lightweight aluminum alloy, with a Type III white, grey, or black hard-anodized finish. The head of the flashlight hosts four LEDs – emitting a bright white light at a 4,000 °K temperature – in a wide reflector, protected by a high-strength glass lens and a black aluminum frame. The output level for all four LEDs can be adjusted for brightness via a dial located on one sight of the flashlight body. Such a system allows a finer adjustment compared to other flashlights that use the activation button for the same purpose.
More specifically, the output of the Wuben X4 Compact flashlight can be adjusted anywhere from a minimum of 5 Lumen upwards to a blinding 1,500 Lumen and an intensity of 10,506 Candela; the beam has a reach of 205 meters (>224 yards), and all four LEDs operate together at all times, providing flood and spot beams at once, for wide and focused lighting with stepless dimming.
Even more interesting, the black aluminum frame that keeps the protective lens in place in front of the LEDs isn’t soldered or glued in place, but rather secured by four hex screws, which allows access for maintenance or replacement of components should that ever become necessary.
Additionally, the Wuben X3 Compact flashlight features a strip of LEDs protected by a translucent panel, located on one side. A sliding switch allows the user to navigate between operating the frontal LEDs and the side LED strip; the same switch allows all controls to be locked out for additional peace of mind against accidental activation.
The side strip hosts a set of seven white, blue, yellow, green and red selectable LEDs for short-range illumination, reading, navigation, and to be used as a beacon for emergency or rescue signaling. Their maximum output is set at 10 Lumen – not nearly as much as the main LEDs, but very visible in the dead of night.
A rubberized tail button works as the main on/off switch. Depending on the position of the sliding side switch, a single click on the button will activate the front LEDs or the side strip in temporary or constant mode, and two quick pushes will activate a tactical strobe mode or signal mode.
The tailcap of the Wuben X4 Compact is magnetized, allowing the flashlight to be attached to any magnetic surface as a support. The tailcap is also hinged for quick access to the battery van: each Wuben X4 Compact comes issued from factory with a single rechargeable 18650 battery that can offer anywhere from three upwards to 285 hours of continuous runtime for the four main LEDs and from eight to 720 hours of runtime for the side strip with a full charge, averaging on 185 hours for the signal mode.
IP68 certified to withstand immersion in 2 meters / 6.½ ft. of water for a full hour and to resist drops and impacts from heights up to 1 meter, the Wuben X4 Compact comes issued from factory with a steel belt clip, a lanyard, and a USB-C cable for recharge.
