In-line muzzleloading rifles aren't particularly popular in Europe and many other Countries, as local laws and regulations ofter put them on the same level as metallic cartridge firearms and regulate them as such.

On the other hand, in the United States of America, in-line muzzleloaders are treated like all muzzle-loaders – in that, they're not even considered firearms at all. Some restrictive States have regulations concerning their purchase, ownership, carry and use, but in most of the Country in-line muzzleloaders can be purchased, owned and used without any sort of red tape, which makes them particularly interesting particularly when it comes to hunting.

Thompson/Center Arms is one of America's longest-lasting and leading manufacturers of modern in-line muzzleloading rifles. Purchased by Smith & Wesson in 2007 and dismissed as a brand in 2021, it was bought out and re-established by former owner Gregg Ritz in May 2024. Production of Thompson/Center firearms restarted in early 2025, and on October 10, the company announced the reintroduction of one of its best and most-appreciated in-line muzzleloaders: the .50-caliber Thompson/Center Triumph rifle.

A modern design featuring a precision-rifled 71 cm / 28" nitride-finished barrel with a 1:24" twist rate, the Thompson/Center Triumph rifle is made to accurately fire modern hunting-oriented bullets in lieu of your classic round balls and is optimized for longer, spire point bullets. And like any other muzzleloader, the powder and the bullet are fed directly through the muzzle.

The Triumph rifle features Thompson/Center's patented Speed Breech XT: a quick-removable breech plug featuring three gas compression rings that virtually eliminate fouling and optimize propulsion, as well as a set of opposing locking lugs to prevent seizing and an optimized powder well for both loose powder and pellets.

The rifle is ignited by inserting a standard 209 primer in a dedicated seat in the Speed Breech plug, which is in line with the hammer and action (hence the name) rather than being off-set to one side like on classic historical muzzleloading firearms. Such system guarantees a quicker, more effective and constantly reliable operation.

Thompson/Center's Triumph rifle also features a unique locking trigger guard design that allows the pressure to be removed from the hinge pin, creating easy access to the breech plug for cleaning or priming/depriming while delivering an unprecedented gas seal of the primer for reliable ignition.

The single-action, hammer-fired trigger of the Thompson/Center Triumph in-line muzzleloading rifle breaks at a crisp, clean 3 lbs (approx. 1,5 kg) and features a patented hammer block safety for additional peace of mind. Another patented feature of the Triumph rifle is the Quick Load Accurizor false muzzle design with counterbored crown that enhances accuracy and simplifies loading.
