Officially launched on the US market on May 20, the Springfield Armory Model 2020 Heatseeker bolt-action rifle mates the tried-and-true Model 2020 action – first introduced almost five years ago on the "Waypoint" model – to a short barrel, a polymer adjustable buttstock and a lightweight alloy chassis system, ensuring the right combination of low weight, rigidity, mobility, stability, versatility and accuracy that will satisfy the needs of hunters (particularly mountain hunters and others who require a lightweight, highly mobile rifle capable of pinpoint long-range accuracy for a guaranteed clean kill) and sport shooters who take part in PRS and other long-range precision shooting competitions.

Available at launch in .308 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor, the Springfield Armory Model 2020 Heatseeker bolt-action rifle is built around a steel receiver with a Cerakote H-250 Coyote Tan finish, hosting a cylindrical 4140 tool steel bolt with its head counterbored to the bolt for increased safety in the event of a case rupturing, and featuring a Remington 700 Short Action pattern MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail screwed on top with 6-48 screws.

Like all other Model 2020 rifles, the Heatseeker model features a push-feed action, with a sliding safety located behind the charging handle and a low-profile bolt release button on the left side of the receiver. The spiral-fluted, nitride-finished body runs on wire EDM cut raceways and sports two sturdy locking lugs.

The factory-issued TriggerTech trigger is externally adjustable between 1,1 and 2,2 kilograms (2.5 lbs / 5 lbs) of weight via a single hex nut, features TriggerTech's signature Frictionless Release technology for a smooth travel and crisp break, and offers an astounding 1.9 millisecond lock time, making it 45% faster than most competitors.

The Springfield Armory Model 2020 Heatseeker rifle, in both calibers, comes with a 406 mm / 16" carbon fiber barrel, featuring a 1:10" twist rate for .308 Winchester and a 1:8" twist rate for 6.5 Creedmoor. The 5/8x24 thread at the muzzle is covered by a screw-on, Cerakote H-250 Coyote Brown finished thread protector, allowing the installation of flash hiders, muzzle brakes, compensators, or sound suppressors where legal.

The quality of the barrel and of its matching with the action is such that Springfield Armory guarantees the Model 2020 Heatseeker rifle as capable of a .75 MOA accuracy level at 100 yards (91,44 meters) right out of the box with Match grade ammunition.

This new iteration of Springfield Armory's Model 2020 line owes its name to the Sharps Bros. Heatseeker chassis system it's built on; manufactured out of aircraft-grade aluminum alloy, with a full Coyote Brown finish, the Heatseeker modular chassis is composed by a free-floating M-LOK handguard and a lower receiver featuring a magazine well.

Fully adaptable to the needs and preferences of any shooter or hunter, the Heatseeker chassis of the new Model 2020 rifle comes issued from factory with a Coyote Brown polymer B5 Systems P-Grip 23 vertical foregrip and a fully adjustable B5 Systems CPS Collapsible Precision Stock, installed on to an AR-15 type buffer tube. Both elements can be replaced by other aftermarket AR-15 compatible grips and buttstocks.

The Springfield Armory Model 2020 Heatseeker bolt-action rifle feeds through detachable Accuracy International Chassis System (AICS) compatible magazines.

Each rifle comes issued with a single-stack five-rounds magazine, but all Model 2020 Heatseeker rifles are compatible with AICS magazines of other manufacturers, materials, and capacity levels.

The magazine catch on the Springfield Armory Model 2020 Heatseeker is an ambidextrous paddle located in front of the trigger guard, allowing shooters to reload their rifle with one hand, without changing position and thus without losing sight of the target.

Standing at 90,17 to 99 centimeters (35.5" / 39") in overall length depending on the extension of the collapsible buttstock, Springfield Armory's Model 2020 Heatseeker rifle weigh in at 3,37 kilograms (7 lbs 7 oz) when empty, in both variants.

The manufacturer's suggested retail price for the Springfield Armory Model 2020 Heatseeker bolt-action rifle on the US market is set at $2,355.00 for both calibers.
