FN Pureview, the world's first micro holographic sight
FN Herstal introduces the Pureview: not just another red dot sight but the first ever micronized holographic sight, a true revolution in small-sized optics for handguns and PDWs
Officially announced in late April, the FN Pureview micro optical sights represents the most important and radical innovation in the field of small-sized electro-optics for handguns and service small arms to have surfaces in quite a few years.
Entirely designed and manufactured in Europe, the FN Pureview was conceived as a component of a professional weapon system, and is certified to operate at extreme temperatures (-40 to +52 °C, or -40 to 125°F) and to withstand the energy of well over 25,000 consecutive rounds and repeated impacts from drops up to 1,8 mt / 5.9 ft, making it perfect as a key accessory for military and law enforcement personnel deployed in hostile environments to tackle the most difficult situations.
Making the FN Pureview stand out as a truly unique alternative on the global markets are its design and technology: the FN Pureview is not just a micro red dot sight – whose reticle is generated by the light of a LED reflected on a glass surface – but a true micro-holographic sight, more similar to an EOTech sight in nature: the reticle is a hologram generated by a laser diode whose emission impacts on a holographic grid (a glass surface that has the image of the reticle etched on it).

More specifically, the FN Pureview is based on the new ImageGuide technology: billions of microscopic structures etched into multiple thin, bonded layers of glass by nanoimprint lithography (NIL) which is used in the semiconductor industry, reflect the laser emission to generate the reticle while eliminating all image distortion. Even should the objective lens break, the user will still be able to see the reticle.
Ultra-clear optics, offering exceptional light transmission for maximum visibility in all lighting conditions, along with a sturdy lightweight aircraft-grade aluminum alloy construction and a hydrophobic lens coating – ensuring that it remains fully operational in heavy rain or marine environments – make the FN Pureview an extremely sturdy and extremely performing sight.
The FN Pureview micro holosight offers a fully sealed construction, waterproof to IP68 requirements, that can remain submerged in water at a depth of 35 meters (approx. 115 ft) for one hour. The body is nitrogen purged to eliminate the risk of internal humidity and fogging for the entire lifetime of the sight as long as the sealing screw is not tampered with.
Available in matte black anodized or flat dark earth versions, the FN Pureview is powered by a single CR2032 battery, hosted in a top-mounted seat that makes it replaceable without requiring the sight to be removed from the host pistol. A single battery can offer up to 800 hours of continuous runtime.
The reticle can be turned on and adjusted on thirteen different brightness levels – three of which are compatible with night vision devices – via two rubberized buttons located on the left side of the sight's body. An integrated sensor activates illumination automatically when movement is detected, and turns it off after five minutes of no movement.
Additionally, a light sensor embedded just underneath the front lens automatically detects environmental light levels and automatically adjusts brightness accordingly to ensure optimal reticle visibility.
Two recessed 1-MOA-per-click turret located on the top rear and rear right portion of the sight body allow the 3 MOA reticle to be adjusted for windage and elevation on a staggering 200 MOA range.
Extremely lightweight and compact Compattissima e leggera (46x30x33mm / .81x1.18x1.30", weighing in at just 44 grams / 1.55 lb), the FN Pureview micro holosight is built on a footprint that's ready right out of the box to be compatible with all FN MRD-ready pistols, including the FN 509, the brand new FN HiPer, and the FN Five-seveN Mk3 MRD.
The robust design of the FN Pureview allows it to withstand the recoil forces of submachine guns, shotguns and rifles; in the future, FN will provide interfaces with Picatinny rail attachments for direct mounting onto many types of weapons or onto magnifying optics.
Having been developed chiefly for military, law enforcement and government sales, the FN Pureview micro holosight is not yet available for commercial sales in Europe; on the other hand, in the United States, FN America lists it as commercially available at a MSRP of $749.00.
