The Firefield brand belongs to the US company Sellmark Corporation, which created it with the explicit task of offering a vast line of cost-effective optics, laser sights, tactical flashlights and many other types of accessories to a broad range of shooting, hunting and MIL-SIM enthusiasts at a time – that of the Great Recession of 2008 – when many of them had very little in terms of spare money to invest in their passions and sports.

As the years went by, the Firefield brand established itself as a solid provider of affordable and dependable accouterments chiefly among Airsoft skirmishers – particularly on a competitive level – as well as among airgun and rimfire shooters for both leisure and training purposes.

While remaining mainly linked to the world of recreational shooting, since few years Firefield offers  the Rapidstrike line of products: a series of optics offering a higher level of quality and performance for dependable use on higher caliber firearms to be used in any kind of shooting activities, yet still budget priced.

Officially introduced on October 8, the new Firefield Rapidstrike RDS (Red Dot Sight) addresses this market segment perfectly. Manufactured around a matte black anodized aircraft-grade lightweight aluminum alloy tube that’s Nitrogen-purged and IP67 certified to prevent fogging and withstand shocks, impacts, and the exposure to water and other potentially dangerous elements, the Firefield Rapidstrike RDS red dot sight is rated for recoil up to, and including, 12 gauge, which means it’s a perfect match for the uses mentioned above.

The roll-marks on the optics body are laser-etched in black or low-contrast white for low visibility.

Both lenses are manufactured out of multi-coated optical glass, to maximize image clarity all along the field of view.

The center dot on the Firefield Rapidstrike RDS is 3 MOA in size and illuminated in red; it can be turned on and off and adjusted on nine different brightness levels via two rubberized buttons located on top of the sight, and adjusted for windage and elevation on a 120 MOA range via two 1-MOA-per-click turrets that are recessed to prevent loss of zero due to impacts or accidental handling: adjustment is made using a special adjustment key supplied with the product.

The illumination is powered by a single, easily sourced CR2032 battery, hosted in a tray located on the left side of the sight’s body. Its design provides easy access for replacement without requiring the removal of the sight from the firearm it’s installed on, and shaves off the bulge, extra weight, and impact hazard of a standard protruding battery seat, making the Rapidstrike RDS lighter and super sleek.

The power management system of the Firefield Rapidstrike RDS red dot sight automatically turns the illumination off every fifteen minutes, while a shake-awake system brings it back on whenever motion is detected. This allows a single battery to offer up to 80,000 hours of runtime depending on the selected brightness level.

The Firefield Rapidstrike RDS shares the same footprint with the Aimpoint T2 line of red dot sights, one of the world’s most popular, ensuring that all factory and aftermarket mounts compatible with the Aimpoint T2 sights will be usable with the Rapidstrike RDS ; each sample, however, comes issued from factory with its own black aluminum 3,8 cm / 1.5” Picatinny mount.

In standard field and range conditions, the new Firefield Rapidstrike RDS delivers: all controls and the battery seat are easily accessible, the sight works as advertised, the image and center dot are clear and crisp, and the sight doesn’t falter nor it loses zero under the recoil of the most common sporting and hunting firearms.

The Firefield Rapidstrike RDS red dot sight isn’t a transcendental piece of gear by any means, but it keeps its promises: it’s a cost-effective, reliable and affordable sight made to satisfy the needs of entry-level customers, and it works as such – well enough, indeed, to warrant a considerable level of market success in the near future.
