Officially announced on the US market at the beginning of the month, the new Kel-Tec SUB2000 Gen3 5.7x28mm folding carbine brings the popular folding defensive and survival carbine design to a new level, rechambering it for the famous high-velocity small caliber first introduced in the early 1990s by FN for the P90 sub-machine gun.

Kel-Tec's new 5.7x28mm SUB2000 Gen3 carbine isn't much different from the 9mm Luger model launched back in January at all: the front assembly, comprising the barrel and the handguard with its top and bottom Picatinny rails and side M-LOK mounts, can be twisted to one side so that users won't need to remove any installed optical sight or other accessories when folding it into the storage or transport position.

The new 5.7x28mm Kel-Tec SUB2000 Gen3 carbine feeds through the same magazines used by the FN Five-Seven pistol; it comes from factory with 20-rds PRO-MAG magazines, but remains compatible with all Five-Seven magazines of any capacity, either original or from third-party manufacturers. Additionally, the 41 cm / 16" barrel allows users to get the best out of the diminutive 5.7x28mm in terms of accuracy and ballistics.

When folded, the Kel-Tec SUB2000 Gen3 carbine shifts from a maximum length of 77 cm (30.45") to a mere 41 cm (16.15") in length for easier transportation or storage; when folded, the SUB2000 will fit a loaded magazine but cannot be chambered or fired.

Other features of Kel-Tec's 5.7x28mm SUB2000 Gen3 include a collapsible buttstoc, a 1:10" twist rate, and a ½x28 TPI thread at the muzzle, allowing the installation of muzzle brakes or flash hiders, compensators, or sound suppressors where legal.
