Sauer S505, a new modular bolt-action hunting rifle
The new Sauer S505 modular bolt-action hunting rifle is built around a new machined steel receiver and completely configurable with interchangeable stock and barrel length, with nineteen popular hunting calibers available
Introduced by J.P. Sauer & Sohn during the 2024 edition of SHOT Show, IWA and EOS, the new Sauer S 505 bolt-action hunting rifle was designed to be not just, as the company itself calls it, "the most beautiful bolt-action rifle in the world", but also one of the most versatile by far.
Available in nineteen popular European and north American hunting calibers and five action sizes (Mini, Medium, Short Magnum, Magnum, and Swiss), the Sauer 505 bolt-action rifle also offers a plethora of stock choices: eight overall, four wooden and four in synthetic materials such as polymer or carbon fiber, with thumb-hole, Monte-carlo, or comb-adjustable buttstocks. The Sauer 505 is completely modular and configurable.
The rifle is built around a six locking lugs action, with an extremely silent, smooth-running bolt and a manual cocking-decocking thumb-activated tang lever for additional safety and peace of mind.
At the heart of the Sauer 505 rifle is an innovative receiver, weighing in at 732 grams (1.6 lbs) and machined out of a solid 6,5 kg (14 lbs) steel billet for maximum solidity. The receiver hosts the bolt and a self-contained trigger that can be removed for weight adjustment on four levels: 450, 750, 1.000 or 1.250 grams (0.77 lbs / 1.66 lbs / 2.2 lbs / 2.8 lbs).
Also built-in on the receiver is the magazine well; the Sauer 505 rifle feeds through proprietary detachable magazines, holding up to three rounds in standard calibers and two rounds in Magnum calibers, with an additional round hosted in chamber. Five-rounds magazines are optionally available for all calibers. The magazine well features a safety system dubbed the MagLock, which blocks the magazine release catch and prevents magazine loss when traveling on difficult terrains.
All barrels, available in a wide array of different lengths and profiles, all with a muzzle thread for silencers or other accessories (M15x1 for standard-contour barrels, M17x1 for heavy-contour barrels) can be easily installed on the Sauer 505's baseline receiver, making the rifle completely modular and caliber-interchangeable.
All barrels are plasma-nitride blued from factory; DLC coating is available upon customer's request for additional durability and resistance against aggressive elements and intense use.
Depending on the user's chosen configuration, the Sauer S-505 bolt-action hunting rifle is 101 to 112 cm (39.7") long overall, comes in five different interchangeable barrel lengths (from a minimum of 42 cm / 16.5 inch to a maximum of 62 cm / 24 inch, depending on caliber) and can weigh at everywhere between 3,2 kilograms (1.1 lbs) and 3,5 kilograms (7.8 lbs).
All models come from factory with a saddle-type scope mount; iron sights integral to the barrel are available as optionals.
